5th September, 2011 - Bluewater, Kent
With a bright orange bus, Fairy Jobmother on board and clear skies and sun overhead we did make quite an entry at the Bluewater Shopping Centre, marking the start of what we hope will be a jobtastic 6 day adventure. Loaded with a stash of 19000+ job opportunities - so you won’t have to fish4jobs in open water - and chaperoned by the weekend weather, we pulled up in front of M&S at the Bluewater Shopping Centre just before 9am.
As the clock struck 9.30, the Fairy Jobmother (Hayley Taylor) emerged, ready to start transforming the futures of the discerning job seekers queuing up to see her. Over 250 CV reviews and 8 hours later, motivation levels in Kent were soaring and ‘the job market wasn’t looking so bleak anymore’ – according to one candidate who had arrived feeling that nothing could make the word job market seem anything but 'dire'.
At today’s event, Brook Street - one of the UK’s leading recruitment agencies – had a selection of office and light industrial positions in the offing with both temporary and permanent varieties to choose from. From customer service, catering and retail to cleaning, driving and more….there was something for everyone.
The Learning Shop (known for their world class training and development programmes), with their Bluewater apprenticeships that let you ‘earn while you learn’ and gain qualifications were a big hit with Kent’s jobseekers. The apprenticeships include the opportunity to work with the local employers at Bluewater and either a 1-day or 14-day training at the Learning Shop - double whammy! The Learning Shop experts were also serving rounds of CV, interview and recruitment advice and previews of their chic Fashion Retail Diploma and other short courses.
The Home Learning College. , that has been has been providing high quality distance learning courses for over 20 years, and has helped thousands of people to take the next step in their career, also made it quite high up in the popularity charts with a varicoloured spectrum of subject courses (accredited by renowned awarding bodies and valued by recruiters and employers) up for enrolment, including: accounting and bookkeeping, IT and web, business and marketing, child care and social care.
It was absolutely manic but in an exhilarating sort of way. Seeing so many candidates getting back in the game with high spirits, was a really amazing experience and we’re looking forward to seeing more of you as we journey across the country, so join us on our jobventure!
