6th September, 2011 – Victoria Sqaure, Birmingham
Having lost our chaperone of good weather somewhere along the way, we pulled in to Victoria Square, in Birmingham's town centre with the rain streaking across the windows of our big orange bus. Luckily for us though, the rain wasn't the only thing on the airwaves this morning. With the Fairy Jobmother, Hayley Taylor serving up smart bytes of CV tips and more on BBC West Midlands, the day was already getting off to a buzzing start.
Word had gotten out that we would be in Birmingham today and news of our Fish4Jobs Roadshow had made its way right up to the barracks of the RAF, who turned up at our bus this morning with a truckload of 220+ roles to fill. The medley of opportunities included both full time roles in the army and spare-time filler positions with the Territorial Army, which provided scope for both developing existing skills and acquiring new ones.
Another exhibitor that was getting its fair share of attention was Lifetime, one of the UK's top training providers. With courses in fitness and active leisure; food service and hospitality; business support services; retail; children and young people's workforce and adult and elderly care on offer, they did generate a lot of interest among potential applicants.
As the afternoon wore on, it continued to drizzle but the skies attempt to rain on our parade had not stopped visitors from queuing up advice and the turnout of both exhibitors and candidates was phenomenal, despite the weather. With 500 CV’s reviewed and their owners in high spirits, it turned out to be a glorious day after all – sunshine of not.
