16 June 2012
After strategic manoeuvring of our big orange double decker bus through the market we reached our designated parking spot for the day and set up shop with British Gas, PayDay Express/TheMoneyShop, Fostering Solutions and Lifetime Fitness, who were all on the lookout for new recruits.
The aim of our Roadshow is to provide jobseekers with access to free CV and career advice, employers and training providers - so they can meet them face-to-face and ask questions and have the opportunity to get a free fifteen minute CV review with one of our CV experts. Employers can meet potential candidates for the roles they’re looking to fill.
Our job fairs are not aimed at any particular age group, level of experience or type of job seeker and attendees were 16 – 50+, encompassing school leavers, students looking for summer jobs and part-time jobs, career changers, mature job seekers and returners to work (such as those who had been full time carers or made redundant).
With over one hundred CVs reviewed and turned around and career advice provided to thousands of jobseekers, and hundreds having had the chance to find out more about becoming a Foster Carer, a Fitness Instructor, or an employee at British Gas or PayDay Express/TheMoneyShop, it was a successful day.
For British Gas, who are currently hiring for Sales, Customer Service and Engineering, the queue kept growing, which was great because there were a large number of high calibre professionals that they met. In fact, they even found a potential candidate for both a white goods engineer position which they said is a tough one to fill, and a skilled plumber which again they said is proving to be a skill set in short supply.
For the PayDay Express/MoneyShop, who left with 20+ applications and dozens of CVs for their roles, which included Collections Agents, Telesales Agents and Outbound Customer Service Agents, it was just as productive.
We also had Fostering Solutions with us who were looking for Foster Carers for children and seems to have had a significant amount of interest in this opportunity. To be a foster carer, you must be over 21 and under 65, and have a spare room in your home. Once you sign on, you will have a CRB check and will go through an assessment period so they can determine whether your domestic situation is stable and suitable for healthy up bringing of a child. The children who require fostering come from broken homes and have often been subjected to hostile domestic conditions so while it can be emotionally challenging, it is also very rewarding. It also gives you the opportunity to work from home.
Lifetime Fitness were also there to sign up fitness instructor and personal trainer hopefuls for their training program for sixteen to twenty four year olds - and there certainly seemed to be no dearth of school leavers looking for a career in fitness. Lifetime Fitness offer NVQ training courses. Lifetime Fitness will be at all locations so do come by if you’d like to find out more about becoming a fitness instructor and personal trainer. If you can’t make it, look out for our next post where we’ll have more information about the courses and career opportunities available once you’ve completed your training at Lifetime Fitness.
