After a day off to restock the bus with CV templates, and recharge our batteries we were back on the road to Newcastle and Glasgow for another 2 days of CV reviews.
Day 7: Northumberland Street, Newcastle
In Newcastle we were joined by the Army, nPower (who were hiring for customer service roles) and Hillary’s Blinds - who have opportunities available for self-employed advisors; the role involves visiting their customers in their homes, discussing their requirements and helping them find the perfect blinds. We also had British Gas, Learn Direct, Fostering Solutions and Lifetime with us, who’ve been on the road with us since we began our UK tour in Bromley on 16 June.
If you have been finding it hard to get back into work, Learn Direct offer training in job seeking and life skills which are designed to help you put your job search back on track.
Day 8: Buchanan Street, Glasgow
In addition to Fostering Solutions, who have been touring the UK with us in search of foster carers, and British Gas who have customer service, sales, engineering and plumbing roles available we had Hillary’s Blinds and the Army with us.
With scores more CV reviews and queues of job seekers, it was a very busy weekend. It was fantastic to have received so much positive feedback throughout from jobseekers, and to have made a difference to people’s job search.
Did you attend the Fish4jobs Roadshow and did it help you? Let us know.

It’s been a fantastic 4 days with The Fairy Jobmother who’s been with us to help job seekers with interview skills, their CV and career advice. 4 days, 4 cities: Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester, and a morale boost and employability quotient spike for a significant number of job seekers. For one jobseeker in particular, it even helped him get a job the same day.
Yes, it has been a very successful 4 days with Hayley.
Today’s other source of excitement was Manchester United football club’s mascot who had come along with the recruitment team who were hiring for hospitality roles, and somehow managed to find his way into the bus driver’s seat.
Helping jobseekers get back in the driver’s seat of their career is what our team of CV experts are on the Roadshow to do, and it felt good to see that we had been able to make a difference.
We also had jobs spanning hospitality, sales, customer service, engineering, care and more, at our jobs fair today, courtesy of British Gas – who have been a fantastic fixture at each of our job fairs this year – Manchester United, Unicom, Fostering Solutions and Meridian Business Support.
A lot of them will be going on to Newcastle and Glasgow with us this weekend so if you haven’t been able to make it to our jobs bus yet, come see us at Northumberland Street in Newcastle on Saturday or Buchanan Street in Glasgow on Sunday.
Hope to see you there.

Another busy day for us, with 80+ CV Reviews and a constant flow of job seekers with career queries and questions about how to find a job; and equally busy for the employers and training providers joining us on our Jobs Roadshow today which included: the Army, British Gas and Fostering Solutions.
One of the best things about our Jobs Roadshow is that as a a job seeker you have the opportunity to get a professional CV review for free, which is the first step towards getting the job you want.
For many jobseekers, it’s not a case of not having the right skills and experience but not presenting your skills and experience effectively on your CV.
Your CV should always include a personal profile that highlights your strengths and experience. If you're a graduate, your education should come at the beginning of your CV.
Here’s an example of a Graduate CV to help you get started.

16 June 2012
After strategic manoeuvring of our big orange double decker bus through the market we reached our designated parking spot for the day and set up shop with British Gas, PayDay Express/TheMoneyShop, Fostering Solutions and Lifetime Fitness, who were all on the lookout for new recruits.
The aim of our Roadshow is to provide jobseekers with access to free CV and career advice, employers and training providers - so they can meet them face-to-face and ask questions and have the opportunity to get a free fifteen minute CV review with one of our CV experts. Employers can meet potential candidates for the roles they’re looking to fill.
Our job fairs are not aimed at any particular age group, level of experience or type of job seeker and attendees were 16 – 50+, encompassing school leavers, students looking for summer jobs and part-time jobs, career changers, mature job seekers and returners to work (such as those who had been full time carers or made redundant).
With over one hundred CVs reviewed and turned around and career advice provided to thousands of jobseekers, and hundreds having had the chance to find out more about becoming a Foster Carer, a Fitness Instructor, or an employee at British Gas or PayDay Express/TheMoneyShop, it was a successful day.
For British Gas, who are currently hiring for Sales, Customer Service and Engineering, the queue kept growing, which was great because there were a large number of high calibre professionals that they met. In fact, they even found a potential candidate for both a white goods engineer position which they said is a tough one to fill, and a skilled plumber which again they said is proving to be a skill set in short supply.
For the PayDay Express/MoneyShop, who left with 20+ applications and dozens of CVs for their roles, which included Collections Agents, Telesales Agents and Outbound Customer Service Agents, it was just as productive.
We also had Fostering Solutions with us who were looking for Foster Carers for children and seems to have had a significant amount of interest in this opportunity. To be a foster carer, you must be over 21 and under 65, and have a spare room in your home. Once you sign on, you will have a CRB check and will go through an assessment period so they can determine whether your domestic situation is stable and suitable for healthy up bringing of a child. The children who require fostering come from broken homes and have often been subjected to hostile domestic conditions so while it can be emotionally challenging, it is also very rewarding. It also gives you the opportunity to work from home.
Lifetime Fitness were also there to sign up fitness instructor and personal trainer hopefuls for their training program for sixteen to twenty four year olds - and there certainly seemed to be no dearth of school leavers looking for a career in fitness. Lifetime Fitness offer NVQ training courses. Lifetime Fitness will be at all locations so do come by if you’d like to find out more about becoming a fitness instructor and personal trainer. If you can’t make it, look out for our next post where we’ll have more information about the courses and career opportunities available once you’ve completed your training at Lifetime Fitness.
Next stop: Churchill Way, Cardiff.
Next weekend: Newcastle/Glasgow
